CUA SLIS Town Hall Meeting

Students, adjuncts, alumni and others concerned with the future of the Catholic University of America (CUA) School of Library and Information Science (SLIS) are encouraged to attend a town hall meeting to discuss proposed changes to the SLIS program. 

The meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, February 6 at 6:00 pm in Aquinas Hall (next to Marist), room 102 (the campus map is available at http://www.cua.edu/res/docs/cuamap.pdf  
 
The Provost has proposed to merge the School of Library and Information Science into the School of Arts & Sciences and change it to a department. This proposal is being reviewed by a committee of the Academic Senate, and the committee has requested an opportunity to consult with stakeholders in a town hall meeting to make a recommendation for the Academic Senate.
 
You are invited to attend and share your views. This would be a significant change and input from those affected is essential to the review process.
 
Here is a brief summary of the process to date:
In late spring 2012, Provost Brennan proposed that the university transition SLIS to the status of a Department within the School of Arts and Sciences.  Like any other significant structural change to academic units at the university, this follows procedures specified in CUA¹s Faculty Handbook, which include the requirement of widespread consultation with those affected, and consideration in light of the university¹s academic goals and mission. At this point the review committee has met with a number of stakeholders, including the Provost, Dean Poos, and the SLIS faculty.
